How We Acquired 50 Users for ImageFlow in 3 Weeks Using Reddit
Scaling a Shopify app through distribution-first marketing that converts users into revenue
The Challenge
ImageFlow was a newly launched app with no existing users, traction, or brand awareness. The challenge was to acquire the first set of users from scratch, validate demand, and build initial trust in a competitive market, without relying on paid ads.
Our Approach
Since ImageFlow was a new app with no traction, we focused on high-intent organic channels instead of paid ads.
We positioned the product around a clear problem, Shopify merchants struggle with managing product images at scale, from bulk uploads to incorrect matching and time wasted on manual work.
Our primary channel was Reddit. We identified relevant eCommerce communities and created problem-first posts that resonated with real merchant pain points. Instead of directly promoting the app, we focused on adding value and naturally introducing ImageFlow in conversations where it fit.
At the same time, we engaged actively in comments, answered questions, and used early interactions to refine messaging. This helped us improve positioning quickly and align the product with what users actually cared about.
This approach allowed us to acquire the first 50+ users while building trust and validating demand.
In addition to the reddit campaign, we also did cold email campaigns targeting pod stores and saw good results.
Lifecycle Emails: Nurturing Users Through Every Stage
Apart from the cold emails, we designed lifecycle emails for various stages of the customer journey. These emails were crucial in retaining users and ensuring their satisfaction. Our lifecycle emails were tailored to different phases:
- Conversion Phase: Welcome emails and onboarding guides.
- Purchase Phase: Encouragement to subscribe to a paid plan.
- Engagement/Activation Phase: Tips and best practices for using Emailwish effectively.
- Renewal Phase: Reminders and incentives for plan renewals.
- Referral Phase: Requests for referrals and reviews from satisfied customers.
The Outcome
In total, we generated 54 new installs over a period of 3 weeks and generated a new 5 star review.
